I looked around on goop.com when Birchbox send the first email and was not a fan. The stuff that was featured on the site at that time was rediculously expensive. I think there was a white scoop neck t-shirt being featured for over $100....are you f*cking serious? Target. $10. You're welcome. Anyway, when I got the box I looked again and saw 2 things wrong. 1)a pair of wing tip shoes being featured 2) that cost $750. I am not a hipster, I do not spend more money on my shoes than I do my car payment. Ridiculous.
Now that we have that covered! We can get to the box goodies. A lot of people did not like the goop box....but I did! I know, I know it is still nothing compared to my first or second box where I got these amazing full sized products like a Stila Bronzer, but this one was worth the $10 for me. Keep reading and I'll tell you why.
I'll just get this out of the way.... BIRCHBOX! Stop sending Luna bars and Larabars. Did you know that I can purchase these items at Target and the grocery store? Did you also know that these are not found in the beauty aisle? Ok, its out of my system. This bar is worth about $1.25 and was listed as the "lifestyle extra". I wish they would put something like the headphones or something like that in again.
This Daily Serum from Joanna Vargas was the first thing I tried from the box. It is a brightening serum with vitamins A, E and C as well as hyaluronic acid. It is a clear, green gel and it smells like gummie candy. I smoothed a few drops on my face before bed a few days in a row. My face felt soft and I did not break out. This little tube can be resealed to keep the rest of the sample fresh.
Next I tried this full sized Essie Polish in "Carry On". This is one of the items I really liked in the box. Not only did Birchbox actually give out a full sized polish this month, but the color is a purple/raisin hue. Worth $8, this is a Fall color for sure.
Here is a photo with the polish on. I made a MESS while painting my nails. Essie polishes are quite runny and I am just never prepared :) This polish covered wonderfully with the first coat, but I still had to do a second to even everything out. I used my butter London base and top coats and some Julep quick dry drops. I really love this color.
This little bottle of body oil by Marie Veronique Organics has watermelon seed, vegetable squalene (?), and apricot kernel oils. It is supposed to be used anywhere on the body that you are dry. I smoothed this over my elbows and rubbed what was left into my hands before I went to bed. This stuff has that "organic" smell. It soaked into my skin quickly, its a very light oil that doesn't leave a greasy film, but I did not feel like it really moisturized my dry skin. When I woke up my hands and elbows were just as dry as before.
This lip balm from Sprout Beauty is the other item I was excited about. I have tried the facial cleanser and the exfoliant when it was sent in my August PopSugar Must Have Box. This stuff is holistic, handmade, and made in small batches from organic ingredients. I really love the creators story and her aim to make beauty products that won't set off allergic reactions, have all natural ingredients, and only include ingredients that are absolutely essential. One lip balm is $5. I got the Cocoa one in my Birchbox and was chomping at the bit to try it...but I had already slathered on my cocoa peppermint lip balm for the night :( I had to wait until the next morning. When I was finally able to try the balm, it has a wonderfully smooth texture and the cocoa flavor is very muted. It was light and left a bit of a glossy sheen. As I kept wearing it, I could taste the cocoa butter more and the cocoa flavor went away.
That is all for the October goop-themed Birchbox! Total value of this box was about $14 and I got a great polish and a lip balm that I really wanted to try. Not bad at all :)
